A man who arrived at the Kudawella Fisheries Harbour in Tangalle fired shots into the air on Tuesday, police said.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Police said the suspect was arrested at the scene along with the firearm used. Investigations are continuing.

Kudawella, on the southern coast east of Tangalle, is one of the country’s busier fishing hubs and has periodically seen disputes between rival crews over berthing and dry-docking access. The Southern Province has logged other recent firearms incidents and Navy operations along the coast.
