An unidentified body has been found on the beach near Galle Face in Colombo, police said.
The identity of the deceased has not been established. Police said the condition of the body has made identification difficult.
The deceased was wearing a pink long-sleeved shirt and shorts, according to police.
The body has been taken to the mortuary of the Colombo National Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to establish the cause of death.
Colombo Fort Police are conducting further investigations.
Ada Derana did not report when the body was discovered or who found it, and police have not said whether the death is being treated as suspicious.

The Galle Face promenade is one of Colombo’s busiest public spaces and has been the site of several water-related emergencies this year. An 11-year-old boy drowned there in June, days after a group of schoolchildren were swept off the shoreline and rescued.
An unidentified body was also recovered from the beach at Uswetakeiyawa, north of Colombo, in June.
