The coordination office for the Sri Lanka Broadcasters’ Symposium 2026 was formally opened on Tuesday under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, the government news portal reported.
The symposium is organised by the Sri Lanka Broadcasters’ Association with the support of the Department of Government Information.

The stated aim is to bring together broadcasting professionals, representatives of media institutions, technical experts and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge and experience on current trends, technological advances, future challenges and emerging opportunities in the industry.
Particular attention will be given to digital technology, modern broadcasting methods, media content production, audience needs and the future direction of the broadcasting industry, according to the announcement.
The programme is also expected to strengthen cooperation between the Broadcasters’ Association and the Department of Government Information, and to contribute to raising professional standards and efficiency across the sector.
Director General of Government Information H.S.K.J. Bandara, officials of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media and other invitees attended the opening.

The stated goal of raising professional standards lands while the government’s main legislative vehicle for media regulation is stalled. The Chartered Institute of Media Professionals of Sri Lanka Bill, gazetted in June and tabled in July, was found last week to contain three clauses inconsistent with the Constitution — meaning it cannot pass by a simple majority unless those clauses are deleted or amended as the Supreme Court directed.
