The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Paris presented the country’s cuisine, culture and tourism attractions at the 10th Village International de la Gastronomie, held at Place de la Concorde in Paris from 10 to 13 September 2026.

The appearance marked Sri Lanka’s return to the event after 2018, an eight-year absence, Colombo Gazette reported.

The scale of the event

The 2026 edition drew more than 100,000 visitors, with 73 embassies in Paris taking part.

The Sri Lankan booth was operated by Chef Shriyani Perera in collaboration with First Secretary (Commercial) Prasadi Boomawalage of the Embassy. It was officially opened on 10 September by Sugeeshwara Gunaratna, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in France.

What was served

Visitors over the four days were offered traditional dishes and refreshments including hoppers, kottu, rolls, samosa, wade and ulundu wade, roti, Sri Lankan soft drinks and Ceylon Tea.

Sri Lankan cultural performances were also staged during the festival, which the Embassy said attracted significant attention from visitors.

Why it matters

The Embassy framed the participation as linking Sri Lanka’s culinary traditions to its tourism offering — reaching an audience of French and international visitors who came for food rather than for a tourism promotion, and who would not otherwise have been targeted.

The timing follows Sri Lanka’s placement among the world’s top 50 food destinations for 2026, and comes as the tourism authorities court European arrivals ahead of the winter season.

Not reported

The report does not say what the participation cost or which agency funded it, how many visitors the Sri Lankan booth itself received, or whether the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau was involved alongside the Embassy. It does not explain the eight-year gap since 2018, or say whether Sri Lanka intends to return in 2027.
