Sri Lanka has been named among the world’s Top 50 Food Destinations for 2026 in an editorial ranking published by Travel And Tour World (TTW), earning fresh international recognition for its culinary tourism.
The island secured a place on the 50-nation list, which was topped by Mexico, followed by Italy and Spain. TTW said its editors assessed destinations on culinary heritage, regional diversity, street-food culture, fine dining, locally sourced ingredients, sustainability, beverage traditions and overall food experiences. The Top 50 spans Europe, the Asia-Pacific, the Americas and the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East.
“Sri Lanka is a vibrant culinary destination where aromatic spices, tropical ingredients and centuries of cultural influences create unforgettable dining experiences, from bustling street-food stalls to elegant coastal restaurants,” TTW said in its citation.
The ranking highlighted the breadth of Sri Lankan cuisine — from rice and curry to hoppers, kottu and seafood delicacies — and named 10 must-visit food destinations across the island: Colombo, Galle, Kandy, Negombo, Ella, Jaffna, Mirissa, Nuwara Eliya, Hikkaduwa and Trincomalee. Colombo was cited for its rice and curry, kottu roti and hoppers; Jaffna for its crab curry and bold Tamil-inspired flavours; and hill-country Nuwara Eliya for its tea-inspired dishes and colonial-era classics.
The recognition is expected to reinforce Sri Lanka’s appeal among international travellers seeking authentic food and cultural experiences. It comes days after Fox Jaffna was named among Sri Lanka’s 30 best dining destinations by Condé Nast Traveller, underscoring the island’s rising profile on the global gastronomy map.
