Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha met former President Ranil Wickremesinghe in Colombo on Friday morning.
The meeting took place at Wickremesinghe’s political office on Flower Road, Colombo, the Daily Mirror reported. The Office of the Former President confirmed that the meeting had taken place but did not disclose any details of the discussion.
Sri Lanka Mirror reported that Ram Babu, the official in charge of political affairs at the Indian High Commission, attended along with several others.
Context
Jha has maintained an unusually visible schedule of calls on Sri Lankan political figures across party lines since taking up the post, including twin meetings with Ali Sabry and Anura Dissanayake’s government in June. Meetings with a former president carry no formal agenda and are not usually read out by either side.
Wickremesinghe, who held office until November 2024, negotiated the programme with the International Monetary Fund that remains the framework for Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring, and India was among the principal bilateral creditors in that process.
