Police have arrested three people in Hendala, Wattala, after recovering one kilogram of heroin, NewsFirst reported on Friday.

The person found with the consignment is a 29-year-old resident of Hendala.

Two others were arrested for aiding and abetting drug trafficking: an 18-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman.

The arrests were made during a raid by officers of the Western Province North Crimes Division.

Context

Hendala sits within the Wattala area north of Colombo, on the approach to the Negombo corridor, and the stretch has featured repeatedly in narcotics enforcement. A separate operation in Mabola, also in Wattala, saw the Colombo Crimes Division arrest a 24-year-old with more than 18kg of crystal methamphetamine and heroin earlier this month. The two cases are unconnected on the available reporting — different units, different quantities and different suspects.

Not reported

The filing gives no street value for the kilogram recovered, does not say when the raid took place or whether the three have been produced before a magistrate, and does not state whether the consignment is linked to any wider trafficking network. The roles alleged against the second and third suspects are given only as aiding and abetting, without further detail.

At the time of writing no other verified newsroom had filed on the raid.
