Sri Lanka Police on Tuesday appealed for public assistance to arrest a suspect wanted in connection with the February double murder of an attorney-at-law and his wife, who were shot dead in the car park of a supermarket in Akuregoda, Talangama, Newswire reported.
The Western Province (South) Division Criminal Investigation Unit is leading the probe into the February 16, 2026 attack. Police said the suspect now being sought had acted as the driver of the vehicle used by the gunmen during the shooting, which took place in broad daylight at the supermarket forecourt.
Members of the public with information were asked to contact the Director, Western Province (South) Division Crimes on 0718592279, or the OIC, Western Province (South) Division Crimes on 0718596065.
The Akuregoda killing was one of several high-profile shootings in the Western Province in early 2026 and added to the caseload the Criminal Investigation Department and the Colombo Crimes Division have been working through under the broader Rata Ekata anti-narcotics and underworld operation. The CID has separately escalated investigations into organised-crime contract killings, recovering specialised weapons. Tuesdayβs appeal marks the first public identification of a named role β the getaway driver β in the Akuregoda case three months after the killings.
