Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fredrick Wootler departed Sri Lanka on Sunday morning for the First Global Conference for Public Communication, organised by INTERPOL in Lyon, France, becoming the first Sri Lankan police spokesperson to deliver a special lecture at an international policing forum of this kind.
The conference, hosted at INTERPOL’s General Secretariat headquarters from April 28 to 30, brings together police communications officers from member states to share practice on crisis messaging, disinformation response and public-trust building.
ASP Wootler is scheduled to deliver a special presentation on how the Sri Lanka Police managed public safety and provided welfare support during recent disaster situations, the Police Media Division said. His remarks are expected to draw on the force’s communications work during the Ditwah-related response, the post-Easter coordination overhaul and the cyber-crime alerts issued through 2025–2026.
The Police Media Division described the invitation as a significant milestone for the Sri Lanka Police, noting that it marks formal international recognition of the unit’s public communications model. ASP Wootler’s selection follows a sharply increased operational tempo for the spokesperson’s office, which has fronted briefings on the Treasury cyber heist, the 323-container investigation and several recent high-profile arrests.
