Sri Lanka Women’s cricket captain Chamari Athapaththu has been appointed to the Player Advisory Board of the World Cricketers’ Association (WCA), the global players’ body announced on Saturday.

Athapaththu joins an advisory group that includes Australia captain Pat Cummins, England Women’s captain Heather Knight, South Africa’s Aiden Markram and Laura Wolvaardt, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, the Netherlands’ Scott Edwards, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell and Maddy Green, and former England batsman Wayne Madsen. She replaces outgoing members Tim Southee and Sophie Devine.

“I am truly honoured to be appointed,” Athapaththu said. “This is a proud moment for Sri Lanka and the wider Asian cricketing community.”

The appointment recognises Athapaththu’s standing as one of the leading figures in women’s cricket globally. She has been instrumental in Sri Lanka’s recent progress in international cricket, with the team preparing for the Women’s Cricket World Cup later this year.

The WCA, formerly known as the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA), advocates for players’ rights across all formats and playing conditions. The advisory board helps shape the association’s positions on issues including player welfare, scheduling, and governance. The WCA recently backed Nuwan Thushara in his NOC dispute with Sri Lanka Cricket.
