Two more suspects accused of arranging fake sureties to secure the bail of former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena were remanded until Wednesday (13) by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Ada Derana reported.

Keselwatta Police produced the two men before the court, citing an ongoing probe into the procurement of paid guarantors for Chandrasena, who was found dead under unexplained circumstances at a Colpetty residence on May 8. The Magistrate ordered that one of the two suspects also be produced for an identification parade.

The remand order is the fifth step in a fast-moving accountability thread that began when the Magistrate granted Chandrasena bail on May 5 over Bribery Commission objections. Police subsequently established that two of the three Rs. 10 million personal sureties had been arranged through payments of Rs. 15,000 each. Those two paid sureties were remanded on May 6, and a 74-year-old broker accused of running the surety procurement chain was arrested by the CCIB earlier the same day.

The two suspects produced on Tuesday are distinct from both the original paid guarantors and the broker, widening the investigation beyond the named guarantors into the procurement network.

Chandrasena had been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations he received a USD 2 million bribe linked to the 2013 Airbus aircraft purchase. The parallel CIABOC track continued on Tuesday with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa appearing at the commission to give evidence in the same case.
