Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna has confirmed that a total of 12 refined fuel shipments are scheduled to arrive during April, providing the most detailed public supply assurance since the energy crisis began.

Rajakaruna said there will be no petrol shortage until the end of June, while diesel supplies are sufficient through the end of May. The first of the April shipments is expected to arrive tomorrow (April 12), easing immediate concerns ahead of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year travel rush.

The assurance comes alongside the CPC’s decision to suspend the QR quota system for petrol vehicles until April 18, allowing motorists to fuel up without restrictions during the Avurudu holiday period.

Supply outlook improves

The 12-shipment schedule marks a significant improvement from the crisis conditions that prompted fuel rationing and odd-even restrictions in recent weeks. The Iran-US ceasefire has eased some pressure on global shipping lanes, though the Strait of Hormuz remains under controlled reopening.

Sri Lanka has also secured supply commitments from multiple bilateral partners, including India, China, and ongoing Russia negotiations.

The Rs. 100 diesel subsidy and fisheries fuel subsidy remain in effect to cushion consumers from elevated prices.
