Sri Lanka has secured its first gold medal at a HYROX global competition, with Yohan Rathnayake and Trevin Reid of the Colombo-based training club FHIIT winning the Men’s Doubles category at HYROX Bangalore 2026.
The pair beat a field of more than 8,200 athletes from over 50 countries, marking the first time a Sri Lankan team has reached the top of the podium at the international functional-fitness series.
Shamara Rahim and Tuwani Wijesundara delivered the country’s other landmark of the day, finishing second in the Women’s Doubles — the first podium finish for Sri Lankan women at a HYROX event.
HYROX is a global mass-participation competition that combines eight one-kilometre runs with eight functional workout stations, including sled pushes, sled pulls, burpee broad jumps, rowing and wall balls. Events are held in major cities worldwide and attract elite and amateur athletes alike.
FHIIT, which describes itself as Sri Lanka’s leading HYROX training club, fielded its athletes in the team’s signature bright yellow uniforms. The club focuses on HYROX-specific programming and has built a structured competition pipeline since the format expanded across South Asia in 2024-2025.
“This victory is not ours alone — it is by His grace,” Rathnayake said after the win, according to Colombo Gazette. “We stayed grounded in faith, trusted the process through every high and low, and found strength beyond ourselves to push through.”
The Bangalore result is a notable moment in Sri Lanka’s emerging fitness-sport scene, which has produced strong showings in CrossFit Open events and obstacle-course racing in recent years but had not previously reached the top of a HYROX leaderboard.
