The Department of Examinations has released the 2025 GCE Advanced Level results. Of 281,810 candidates who sat the exam, 176,527 — or 62.64% — qualified for university entrance.
Western Province recorded the highest qualifying rate at 69.42%, while North Central Province trailed at 60.91%. A total of 7,477 school candidates achieved ‘A’ passes in all subjects, alongside 823 private candidates who matched the same standard.
In the Biological Science stream, Dilan Sanjana of Royal College, Colombo, took first place, followed by Krishan Sasidu Namthara of Taxila Central College and Darshana Konesh of Sri Shanmuga Hindu Ladies’ College. Devendan Thirukumaran of Kilinochchi Maha Vidyalaya topped the Physical Science stream, with Tharusha Gimhana Gamlath of Maliyadeva College and Vinura Prasad de Mel of Sri Sumangala Boys’ College in second and third. The Commerce stream was led by Subaideen Mohamed Fardhan of Kattankudy Central College.
The results of 111 candidates have been suspended, with the Department of Examinations indicating the cases are under inquiry. Re-scrutiny applications are open from April 6 to April 22.
Results are available on the Department of Examinations website at doenets.lk and via SMS. The 2025 examination was sat in late 2025 and marks the cohort that will enter Sri Lanka’s state universities later in 2026, subject to the University Grants Commission cut-off process.
