Gold prices in Sri Lanka rose by approximately Rs. 4,000 on Wednesday as markets reopened after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year long weekend, according to Colombo Pettah gold traders.

The price of a 22-carat gold sovereign climbed to Rs. 369,900, up from Rs. 366,200 recorded last Friday. The 24-carat sovereign rose to Rs. 402,000, up from Rs. 398,000.

The increase reflects the global safe-haven rally driven by the ongoing Middle East conflict, which has kept oil prices elevated above $95 per barrel and sustained investor demand for precious metals. The Hormuz blockade and geopolitical uncertainty continue to underpin gold’s upward trajectory worldwide.
