The first batch of 325 Sri Lankan Hajj pilgrims arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Saturday May 2 and were received by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador, Ameer Ajwad, at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh said.

Acting Consul General Mafusa Lafir, Asmiya Ameer Ajwad and officials of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah were present at the airport, alongside representatives of Rehlat Wa Manafe, the designated Hajj service provider for Sri Lanka in 2026, and representatives of Nusuk Hajj operations who facilitated arrival arrangements, Newswire reported on Tuesday.

Ambassador Ajwad extended his best wishes to the pilgrims and thanked Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the arrangements made for the pilgrims under this year’s Hajj programme. He highlighted the close collaboration between the Sri Lanka Hajj Mission, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, and the designated service providers.

Sri Lanka’s total quota for the 2026 Hajj season stands at 3,500 pilgrims, with subsequent groups scheduled to depart over the coming days. The first group departed Bandaranaike International Airport on Friday May 1, opening the 2026 pilgrimage season.
