LAUGFS Gas PLC has announced a domestic LPG price revision effective from midnight on May 7, 2026, citing continued escalation in global market pressures in the procurement of liquefied petroleum gas.
The price of a 12.5kg cylinder in the Colombo District will rise by Rs. 545 to Rs. 6,245. The 5kg cylinder will increase by Rs. 220 to Rs. 2,500.
In a statement, the company said it remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted LPG availability to domestic, commercial, and industrial customers across Sri Lanka despite the challenging global operating environment.
The hike opens a Rs. 1,480 gap with state-linked rival Litro Gas on the 12.5kg cylinder — the largest divergence between the two suppliers in recent memory. Litro kept its prices unchanged for May, holding its 12.5kg cylinder at Rs. 4,765 and its 5kg unit at Rs. 1,910.
The split exposes households and small businesses to a sharply two-tier gas market depending on which brand their local distributor stocks. LPG procurement has been under pressure for months as Brent crude prices remain elevated above $100 per barrel and the rupee trades near Rs. 320 against the US dollar.
Opposition lawmakers have repeatedly pressed both suppliers in recent weeks over the speed at which they pass on global price moves, while the government has resisted calls for direct intervention in the LPG retail market.
