Police have arrested a 44-year-old Borella resident who allegedly posed as the husband of the Prime Minister’s Personal Secretary in an attempt to secure admissions at a prominent Colombo school.

The arrest followed a complaint by the Prime Minister’s Office to the Senior Superintendent of Police for Colombo South. According to investigators, the suspect met the school’s principal and offered to facilitate student admissions in exchange for two Urban Development Authority housing units in Homagama, completing the relevant application forms in the process.

Police said the suspect sent the principal two fraudulently created Facebook accounts falsely portraying his spouse as holding the Personal Secretary post at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Five earlier legal cases on forgery charges are on record against the suspect, police said, adding that he has been convicted in two prior cases and previously served a five-and-a-half-year prison term. Investigations are continuing.
