The flagship luxury cruise liner MS Amadea arrived at Galle Port on Thursday, bringing 580 passengers and 315 crew members to Sri Lanka as part of an ongoing 146-day world tour.

The vessel, registered under the flag of the Bahamas and operated by a German travel company, is widely recognised in Germany as the official filming ship for the popular television series Das Traumschiff (“The Dream Ship”), adding cultural significance to the visit.

Measuring 193 metres in length and featuring eight decks with all-outside cabins and private balconies, the Amadea is on a global voyage that departed Germany in December 2025. The majority of passengers are German nationals.

Passengers had been scheduled to visit Galle Fort, Hikkaduwa, Rumassala, Koggala, and Ahangama. However, rough seas prevented the safe deployment of small boats for shore excursions, prompting the ship to depart for Colombo Port instead.

The arrival follows the Silver Dawn’s visit earlier this month, which brought over 1,000 tourists. The continued arrival of luxury cruise liners signals resilience in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector despite the ongoing Middle East energy disruptions that have affected some regional travel routes.
