The main suspect in a shooting at the Sirisara Uyana apartment complex in Borella that killed two people and wounded three others has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department, NewsFirst reported on Friday.
The 30-year-old Borella resident was taken into custody by CID officers at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake upon his return to Sri Lanka. An international red notice had been issued for his arrest. He has since been handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division, which is conducting further investigations.
The arrest extends a busy week for Interpol-coordinated returns. On Friday, 21 Sri Lankan deportees from Dubai included two suspects with active red notices over drug trafficking, murder and fraud cases. Sri Lankaβs Department of Immigration and Emigration has worked with Interpol on several high-profile returns this year, including the BIA monk drug-ring mastermind and the organised-crime extradition framework under which several underworld figures have been brought back from Gulf states and Southeast Asia.
The original shooting at the Sirisara Uyana housing complex left two people dead and three injured.
