Five Sri Lankan technology companies completed a European market exposure programme spanning Germany and the Nordic region under a joint initiative of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) and Germany’s Import Promotion Desk (IPD), the Daily FT reported.
The delegation began at Hannover Messe, the global industrial technology trade fair, with pre-arranged business-to-business meetings showcasing capabilities in digital transformation, software development and emerging technologies. The programme then moved to Berlin for ecosystem tours, keynote sessions, workshops and a dedicated networking and pitch event with European startups, investors and industry experts.
In Stockholm, the firms attended the Nordic Growth Summit, a session at Impact Hub, strategic meetings at Tech Arena and a visit to Nordea Bank focused on fintech innovation and Nordic scaling opportunities. Participants secured high-quality leads and initiated active follow-ups for partnerships in artificial intelligence and enterprise technology, the EDB said.
This is the second EDB-IPD collaboration. The board cited a Sri Lankan firm that closed a deal with a German company under the first edition and used the second to expand the partnership, noting that the relationship took more than nine months to mature into commercial outcomes. EDB framed the programme as a gateway for other Sri Lankan ICT exporters seeking entry to the German and broader European markets.
The push aligns with the ADB-supported National Export Development Plan 2026-2030, which targets diversification beyond apparel and tea into services and technology, and the ADB’s USD 100 million export diversification programme channelled through the EDB.
