Two senior Sri Lankan diplomats have taken up their new postings abroad, the Foreign Ministry confirmed this week.
Ambassador Anura Withanage formally assumed duties at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beirut on Monday, April 6, 2026. Addressing embassy staff, Withanage acknowledged their work “during a period of uncertainty in Lebanon” and pledged to strengthen bilateral ties while improving services to the Sri Lankan community in the country. His arrival comes as Lebanon continues to sit on the edge of the widening Middle East conflict, with thousands of Sri Lankan migrant workers — predominantly domestic workers — still resident in Beirut and surrounding areas.
High Commissioner Dharshana M. Perera assumed office at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur on March 31, 2026. In remarks to his team, Perera said the mission would focus on deepening “political, economic and cultural” engagement with Malaysia and called for improved support services for Sri Lankan expatriates. He urged staff to align their work with the government’s broader international engagement priorities.
Malaysia remains one of the larger destinations for Sri Lankan labour migration and professional diaspora, and the high commission processes a sustained volume of consular cases alongside trade and investment promotion work.
Both envoys emphasised their intention to deliver tangible benefits for their respective diaspora communities. Neither mission has yet announced specific policy initiatives, and the Foreign Ministry has not released additional details on their immediate agendas. The appointments fill two of several diplomatic posts rotated in recent months as the Dissanayake administration continues to restructure Sri Lanka’s overseas missions.
