Sri Lanka’s javelin throwers Sumedha Ranasinghe and Dilhani Lekamge claimed silver medals at the Asian Throwing Championship in Mokpo, South Korea, on Sunday.
Olympian Sumedha Ranasinghe threw a season-best 76.95 metres in the men’s javelin to finish second in a closely contested final. Uzbekistan’s S. Ismoilov took gold with 77.39 metres.
Dilhani Lekamge produced a season-best 56.79 metres in the women’s javelin to take silver. Japan’s M. Ueda won gold with 58.84 metres.
Both athletes train under coach Pradeep Nishantha and benefited from his on-site support during the meet. Their performances continue Sri Lanka’s recent run in field events, building on Rumesh Tharanga’s rise to world No. 7 in javelin rankings, and provide a boost ahead of upcoming international competitions.
