Trinity College ended a long wait for silverware with a dominant 58-26 victory over Royal College to clinch the Dialog Schools Rugby Knockouts 2026 President’s Trophy at Sugathadasa Stadium.
Trinity scored an emphatic ten tries, racing to a 27-12 half-time lead and never looking back. Standout performers included Abdul Malik, who contributed a try and an assist, Dimath Abeypitiya with two tries, and Sadeesha Weerawansa and Ammaar Manzil who both crossed the line in a ruthless attacking display.
Royal’s discipline problems proved costly throughout, with the Colombo side unable to contain Trinity’s pace and width. While Royal managed four tries of their own, the Kandy outfit’s relentless scoring pressure was too much to overcome.
The result marks a significant triumph for Trinity’s rugby programme, which has been rebuilding toward a major knockout title. The ten-try haul underscored the team’s attacking depth across the backline.
The Dialog Schools Rugby Knockouts is one of the most prestigious events on the Sri Lankan schools rugby calendar, drawing large crowds and significant attention to the development pipeline that feeds the national senior squad.
