The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that applications for undergraduate degree programmes based on the results of the recent Advanced Level examination will commence on April 27.

UGC Vice Chairman Professor Wasantha Liyanage said applications will be accepted online, with candidates given a three-week window to submit them. He added that the handbook containing instructions for university admission will be released within the next few days.

The opening of the application window marks the beginning of a critical stage for the country’s A-Level cohort, following the release of results that determine placements at state universities. The online-only format has become the standard process since the pandemic-era shift away from paper submissions.

The UGC has not released specific cut-off marks or faculty-level quotas in this announcement, though these typically follow once applications close and the zonal selection process begins.

Candidates are advised to monitor the UGC website and the forthcoming handbook for programme-level eligibility and the deadline for submission.
