Sanath Manatunge, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon, has been appointed Chairman of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, Ada Derana Business reported.
The appointment places one of the country’s most senior banking executives at the head of Sri Lanka’s foremost employers’ organisation, which represents companies across a wide range of industries in matters of labour relations, workplace policy and economic advocacy.
Manatunge has spent his career in the banking sector and leads the Commercial Bank, the largest private-sector lender in the country. In his new role, he is expected to guide the federation’s engagement with the government, trade unions and regulators on issues affecting the private sector, including employment law, wages and productivity.
The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon serves as the principal voice of employers in national tripartite discussions and often shapes debate on labour reforms and industrial relations. Its chairmanship rotates among senior business leaders drawn from its member companies.
Manatunge’s appointment reflects the continued prominence of the banking industry within the country’s organised business community.
