Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology has issued two weather advisories, warning of strong winds in several areas and elevated temperatures across parts of the east and north of the country.
The strong wind advisory covers several regions where gusty conditions are expected, with the Met Department urging residents to exercise caution, according to Daily Mirror.
Separately, a warm weather advisory has been issued for the Eastern and North Central provinces, as well as the districts of Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Monaragala, Ada Derana reported. The advisory warns of higher-than-usual temperatures in those areas.
Officials generally advise the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day, and take care of children, the elderly and outdoor workers when warm weather advisories are in force. During strong winds, residents are urged to secure loose objects and take care near trees, hoardings and temporary structures.
