The home of a police sergeant attached to the Dickwella Police came under gunfire in Beliatta, police said.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday night (July 22), when unidentified assailants arrived at the location on a motorcycle and opened fire at the residence before fleeing the area. According to investigators, a bullet struck the gate of the house. No injuries were reported.
Preliminary investigations have led police to believe the attack may have been carried out in connection with a land dispute rather than any other motive.
Police are continuing inquiries to identify the assailants. The incident comes amid a spate of targeted shootings reported across the Southern Province in recent days.
