Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage formally assumed duties as Commander of the Eastern Naval Area on Thursday (24) at the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters in Trincomalee.

In keeping with naval traditions, the newly appointed Area Commander was received at the Eastern Naval Command before taking over his duties and responsibilities from his predecessor, Rear Admiral Kosala Warnakulasooriya.

The Sri Lanka Navy said Rear Admiral Liyanagamage will continue to serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy in addition to his new appointment.

The Eastern Naval Area, headquartered in the strategic port city of Trincomalee, is one of the Navy’s key regional commands, responsible for maritime security and operations along the island’s eastern seaboard.
