Several spells of showers are expected across parts of Sri Lanka today (July 26), the Department of Meteorology said in its daily forecast.
Showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, according to the department. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.
The department also warned that strong winds of about 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-central provinces, and in the Hambantota, Trincomalee and Puttalam districts.
Motorists and residents in low-lying and hilly areas are advised to exercise caution during heavy showers, which can bring localised flooding, reduced visibility and gusty conditions. The forecast comes as Sri Lanka moves through a mixed weather pattern during the south-west monsoon season.
