Construction of a new viewing centre at Dunhinda Waterfall in Badulla began on Monday, in a bid to improve facilities for the large numbers of local and foreign visitors the site attracts.
The Uva Provincial Tourism Ministry has allocated Rs. 20 million for the work. The new structure will replace the existing viewing platform, which is more than five decades old and has deteriorated over time.
Authorities said the facility is expected to give visitors a safer and more comfortable vantage point while upgrading essential infrastructure at one of Sri Lanka’s most popular natural attractions.
Dunhinda Waterfall lies in the Soranathota Divisional Secretariat Division in the Uva Province, a short distance from Badulla town. It continues to draw significant tourist interest for its scenic setting and surrounding landscape.
Officials said the project forms part of a broader effort to improve tourism facilities and develop visitor-friendly destinations across the Uva Province.
