A 52-year-old man has died following a sharp weapon attack at a house in Keerapane, Gampola, on Tuesday night (July 28), police said.
Officers went to the scene after receiving information that an injured person was lying inside a residence. The man was rushed to the Gampola Hospital but had succumbed to his injuries by the time he was admitted, Ada Derana reported.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Keerapane.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack followed an argument between the victim and his nephew. Police said the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim with a sharp weapon during the dispute, causing his death.
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Police investigations are continuing.
Gampola, in the Kandy District, falls within the Central Province. Police have not released the names of the deceased or the suspect, and no motive beyond the reported argument has been disclosed.
