The National Water Supply and Drainage Board will suspend water supply to a number of areas south of Colombo on Tuesday (4) for essential maintenance at the Kandana Water Treatment Plant.
Interruptions will run from five to 16 hours depending on the area.

The board advised residents in affected areas to store water in advance. Further details can be obtained from the NWSDB customer service hotline on 1939.
The maintenance shutdown is unrelated to the weather, but it lands at the end of a week that has disrupted supply elsewhere. The board’s chairman said on Monday that operations at three separate schemes — Meewathura in Kandy, Mawanella and Asupiniella — had been temporarily suspended as water levels rose in the Mahaweli and the Maa Oya, Hiru News reported. A 12-hour cut affected parts of the Kandy district on Sunday.
