The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, has met representatives of six Tamil-speaking political parties, in a meeting held at the request of the parties themselves.
In a post on X, the High Commissioner said the group briefed him on matters of concern to them and on their various engagements, including meetings they have held with the Sri Lankan leadership. He said the discussion also covered ongoing India–Sri Lanka projects and other areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was held as part of the Indian High Commission’s engagements with political representatives in Sri Lanka.
The six-party bloc
The grouping has been consolidating its position over recent months. Six Tamil-speaking parties announced a joint agreement in July to work together on issues of common interest, and later that month met at Parliament to reaffirm that platform and to pledge that they would seek talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on their shared demands.
Tuesday’s meeting indicates the bloc is running a parallel track with New Delhi alongside its approach to the Sri Lankan government. India has historically been a party to questions of devolution and the implementation of the 13th Amendment, and Tamil parties have regularly raised those issues with successive Indian high commissioners.
Ada Derana’s report, drawn from the High Commissioner’s own social media post, did not name the six parties or specify which concerns were raised. No other verified newsroom had reported the meeting at the time of writing, and neither the High Commission nor the parties had issued a fuller readout.
