The Central Bank of Sri Lanka is holding a two-day digital payments promotion in Jaffna this Friday and Saturday, aimed at government officials, the business community and the general public.
The event runs on August 7 and 8 at Cargills Square, Jaffna, from 8.30 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. It forms part of a nationwide campaign the CBSL is running with financial institutions and other stakeholders.
Attendees will be able to get one-to-one help from banks, finance companies and e-money service providers to register for and use digital payment services.
“At this event, the public will be able to receive personalised assistance from financial institutions, including banks, finance companies and e-money service providers to register and effectively use a wide range of digital payment services,” the CBSL said.
Signing up merchants
Alongside the public-facing programme, financial institutions and LankaPay will run a merchant engagement drive in Jaffna town, offering local businesses the LANKAQR payment acceptance facility.
LankaPay operates the national retail payment system. LANKAQR is the country’s standardised QR code scheme, which lets a merchant accept payments from any participating bank or wallet app through a single code rather than maintaining separate arrangements with each provider.
CBSL officials, banks, non-bank financial institutions and LankaPay will attend.
The regulator invited the Jaffna public and business community to use the opportunity to “enhance their awareness and experience the conveniences of digital payments with the guidance and personalised assistance provided by the financial institutions.”
