A fire broke out on Sunday evening at a factory producing coconut timber-based products in Madampe, in the Puttalam District, both Ada Derana and Hiru News reported.
The Chilaw Urban Council Fire Brigade responded, and firefighters were working with help from area residents to contain and extinguish the blaze at the time both reports were filed.
Hiru described the fire as having broken out suddenly and the effort to control it as strenuous. Neither outlet reported any injuries.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have not been confirmed.
