A 16-year-old boy has been arrested over the killing of his father in the Ukuwela area of Matale, Ada Derana reported.
The dead man has been identified as a 40-year-old resident of Ukuwela, police said. He died after allegedly being attacked with a sharp weapon.
Preliminary investigations indicate the killing followed a dispute between the father and son, according to police. No account of what the dispute concerned has been given.
Matale Police are conducting further investigations.
What has not been said
Police have not stated when the attack took place, where in Ukuwela it occurred, or whether anyone else was present. Neither the dead man nor the suspect has been named β the suspect is a minor β and no information has been released about the household or about any earlier complaints involving the two.
It is also not clear when the teenager will be produced in court. Suspects under 18 in Sri Lanka are dealt with under separate provisions from adults, and the case would ordinarily come before a magistrate rather than proceed as an adult prosecution from the outset, though police have not commented on how it will be handled.
Corroboration
No other verified Sri Lankan newsroom had reported the incident at the time of writing. Ada Deranaβs account is the only one available, and the detail above reflects the limits of what it published β a four-sentence police brief.
