Four people were killed in four separate road crashes on September 8, police said — in Kotawila, on the Matara–Akuressa road, in Koslanda and in Keppetipola, the Daily Mirror reported.
Kotawila. A three-wheeler on the Laabima–Sultanagoda road overturned after its driver lost control. The driver, a 68-year-old from Sultanagoda, was critically injured and died later at Matara Hospital.
Matara–Akuressa road. In the evening, a motorcycle overtaking a bus collided head-on with an oncoming motorcycle. One rider was thrown under the bus and died at the scene — a 19-year-old from Pitabaddara. The other motorcyclist was injured and admitted to Matara Hospital.
Koslanda. A motorcycle heading towards Wellawaya collided head-on with a tipper truck in the Udumulla area of the Koslanda–Wellawaya road. The rider, a 58-year-old Police Sergeant attached to Koslanda Police Station, died after being admitted to Koslanda Hospital. The truck driver has been arrested and Koslanda Police are investigating.
Keppetipola. A 19-year-old passenger was killed in the Alakolagala area of the Nuwara Eliya–Badulla road when the three-wheeler he was travelling in crashed into a parked lorry.
Two outlets, two locations for the same collision
Hiru News reported the Matara–Akuressa death separately and places it near the Palatuwa Unella junction. The Daily Mirror places it near the Godagama Highway entrance.
Everything else matches — same road, same date, two motorcycles travelling in opposite directions, one rider run over by a nearby bus and killed, the other injured and taken to Matara Hospital. These are the same crash reported with different landmarks, not two incidents. Hiru adds the directions of travel: one motorcycle was heading from Akuressa towards Matara, the other from Matara towards Akuressa. Neither outlet notes the discrepancy, and we have not resolved which landmark is correct.
What the pattern shows
All four deaths involved a motorcycle or a three-wheeler, and in three of the four the person killed was on the smaller vehicle. Two were 19 years old.
Two of the four crashes involved no second vehicle at all — the Kotawila three-wheeler overturned after its driver lost control, and the Keppetipola three-wheeler struck a parked lorry. The two head-on collisions each involved a larger vehicle: a bus and a tipper truck.
Only one arrest is reported, of the tipper truck driver at Koslanda.

Neither outlet names any of the dead, gives times for three of the four crashes, or says whether speed, road conditions or mechanical failure are being examined.
