A man working at a hotel in Seeduwa town died after being pushed from the building’s upper floor during an argument, Seeduwa Police said.
The dead man was a 49-year-old resident of the Boyagane area who was employed at the hotel and lived on its upper floor, Hiru News reported.
What police say happened
Investigations so far indicate the victim and a friend — also employed at the same hotel — were consuming alcohol on Wednesday (16) when an argument broke out between them.
As the argument escalated, police said, the suspect pushed the victim from the upper floor, causing his death.
A 41-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident. Seeduwa Police are continuing investigations.
Context
Seeduwa lies in the Gampaha District, immediately south of Katunayake and close to Bandaranaike International Airport — a strip where small hotels and guesthouses serving airport traffic employ live-in staff. Both men worked at the same premises, and the victim’s accommodation was the upper floor from which he fell.
Police have classified the death as a murder rather than an accident, on the basis that the fall followed a deliberate push during the altercation. Any charge will ultimately depend on the post-mortem finding and on whether investigators conclude there was intent to kill or a lesser degree of culpability.

Police have not released the names of either the dead man or the suspect, the name or location of the hotel, or the height of the fall. Hiru does not say whether the victim died at the scene or later in hospital, when the post-mortem is scheduled, when the suspect is to be produced in court, or what the argument was about.
