Twenty destination management companies will play the second Mosvold Sixes at the Colombo Malay Cricket Club on 4 October, a six-a-side softball tournament that the travel trade uses to open the tourism season.
The event is staged by Mosvold Sri Lanka — whose properties include Mosvold Villa Ahangama and Sundara by Mosvold Balapitiya — in partnership with the Mosvold Martinus Foundation, Hiru News reported.
The tournament trophy is the Mosvold Martinus Foundation Challenge Trophy, named for the Foundation, whose work covers education, women’s empowerment and community upliftment.
The field
Twenty DMCs have confirmed: Tangerine Tours, Sri Lanka Tailormade, Olanka Travels, Antiquity Sri Lanka, Travel Trends Leisure, House of Travels & Tourism, NKAR Travels & Tours, Jetwing Travels, Walkers Tours, Connaissance de Ceylan, Delux Holidays, Ceylon Roots, Spiceland Holidays, Infinity Vacations, Tropiculture, Serene Travels, Authenticities, Red Apple Travel & Holidays Lanka, DTH Travel Lanka and Ceylon Tours.
Connaissance de Ceylan enters as defending champion, having won the inaugural edition last year.
“The Mosvold Sixes is our way of opening the season the way we like to work, together,” said Nilanka Martinus, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Mosvold Sri Lanka. “It brings the whole travel trade onto one ground to play hard, laugh harder and remember why we do this in the first place. Naming the trophy after the Mosvold Martinus Foundation keeps that spirit honest, because for us success only counts when it is shared.”
What the 2025 photograph shows
Hiru’s copy gives no detail of last year’s edition, but the image it published with the report does. The presentation banner reads “Mosvold Sixes 2025 Champions”, and states the prize as a one-night luxury getaway on full board at Mosvold Villa, Ahangama, worth LKR 250,000. The winning squad in the frame is mixed — men and women in the same team — which the written report does not mention.
The timing
The 4 October date places the tournament immediately before Sri Lanka’s peak inbound season, which runs from roughly November to March. Destination management companies are the wholesale layer of that business — they build and operate the ground arrangements that foreign tour operators sell — so a season-opener drawing twenty of them onto one field is a reasonable proxy for the trade’s active roster.
Caveats
This is a trade event organised by a hotel group and announced through its own publicity; Hiru’s report carries no independent reporting and no verified newsroom other than Hiru covered it. There is no entry fee, prize, format or fundraising figure for the 2026 edition, and no total is given for what the Foundation has raised through the tournament.
