A businessman abducted from his car in Panadura on Tuesday night has been found abandoned near a public cemetery and admitted to hospital, Hiru News reported.
Police believe the abduction was carried out by a relative of the businessman, Hiru said, citing information already uncovered in the investigation.
What happened
The man was driving home along Mahanama Mawatha in the Walana area of Panadura on the night of 29 September, with his wife and two daughters in the car.
A group of unidentified people in a second vehicle smashed the car’s windows near his home and seized him.
He did not stop. Hiru reports that he kept driving as the attackers moved on the vehicle, and the car ran off the road into a ditch.
The family
His two daughters escaped unharmed. His wife was injured and was admitted to Panadura Base Hospital.
The businessman himself was later found abandoned near the Minuwampitiya public cemetery and taken to the same hospital for treatment. Hiru does not describe his condition, say how long he was held, or report how he came to be found.
The investigation
Officers of the Panadura Division Crime Scene Investigation unit are investigating.
Hiru does not name the businessman, give his age, say how many people were involved, or report any arrest. It does not state what relationship the suspected relative has to him, or suggest a motive.
