City of Dreams Sri Lanka will host a four-night Oktoberfest at The Podium from October 21 to 24, with tickets advertised at Rs 9,800 nett including a Bavarian buffet and live entertainment.
The event is sponsored by Commercial Bank, EconomyNext reported on Saturday. Colombo Gazette carried the same announcement on October 15, adding that tickets and further information are available on 077 962 8132.
The band Slipping Chairs is scheduled to play on all four nights, with a different act joining them each evening: Cold Sweat on October 21, Black on October 22, Pop Culture on October 23 and Magic Box Mix Up for the closing night on October 24. The organisers describe Slipping Chairs’ appearance as exclusive to City of Dreams for this Oktoberfest season.
The advertised buffet includes Schweinshaxe pork knuckle, grilled Leberkäse and German sausages including Weisswurst and Cheese Krainer, with Obatzda cheese dip and freshly baked pretzels, and Apfelstrudel for dessert.
Not the first, despite the billing
Colombo Gazette’s headline calls this “Sri Lanka’s biggest Oktoberfest”, and EconomyNext refers to “this year’s celebration” — wording that points to an earlier edition rather than a debut.
There was one. The Sunday Times reported on 12 October 2025 that Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams was staging what it then billed as Colombo’s first-ever Rooftop Oktoberfest, from October 16 to 19 last year, also at The Podium. That report is noted here for the record rather than cited as current reporting, since it falls well outside this desk’s source window.
The comparison is informative in three ways.
The venue and format are unchanged — four nights at The Podium, a German buffet and a nightly music line-up — and this year’s dates fall five days later in the month. Three of this year’s four advertised acts, Slipping Chairs, Pop Culture and Magic Box Mix Up, also appeared on the 2025 bill, which makes the “exclusive” framing a claim about this season rather than about the artists.
The superlative has shifted from “Colombo’s first-ever” in 2025 to “Sri Lanka’s biggest” in 2026. Neither claim is independently verifiable, and both originate with the organisers.
The advertised menu is shorter this year. The 2025 listing named Sauerbraten, Brathähnchen roast chicken, Bratwurst, sauerkraut, sautéed potatoes, German potato salad and Rote Grütze alongside the dishes carried forward to 2026. None of those appear in this year’s announcement. Whether that reflects a smaller spread or simply a shorter press release is not something either filing establishes.
Not reported
Neither filing gives a capacity figure, a start time, or whether the Rs 9,800 ticket covers beverages — both mention drinks as part of the offering without saying they are included in the price. Neither says whether the event is held indoors or on the rooftop, the feature the 2025 edition was named for. No attendance figure for last year’s edition has been reported, so the “biggest” claim cannot be checked against a baseline.
Both published accounts closely follow the organisers’ announcement, and the details above are advertised arrangements rather than independently verified ones.
