The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds affecting several provinces and districts, warning the public to remain vigilant.
The advisory was issued at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (July 13) and will remain in effect until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (July 14). Winds of about 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and North-Western provinces, and in the Monaragala, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Mannar districts, the department said.
The gusts are being driven by active south-west monsoon conditions, which typically bring strong winds and rough seas to parts of the island during this period.
The Meteorology Department urged the public to stay alert and to pay attention to any further advisories it issues. An Amber advisory signals conditions that could disrupt daily activity and cause localised damage, and residents in the affected areas are advised to secure loose objects and take precautions against falling branches and temporary structures.
