Veteran western vocalist Antoinette De Alwis has passed away, NewsFirst reported on Tuesday.

De Alwis was widely regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s most accomplished western music performers, earning recognition across decades for her contributions to the country’s English and western music traditions.

Her death was announced on the morning of April 15, the day after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations. No details regarding the cause of death or funeral arrangements have been made public at the time of reporting.

Sri Lanka’s western music scene, which flourished from the 1960s through the 1980s, produced several internationally recognised vocalists and bands. De Alwis was among the most prominent figures of that era, known for her vocal range and stage presence.

Further details are expected from family and music industry representatives in the coming days.
