Police have discovered a sword and three live hand grenades at a rented residence in Pallekele occupied by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), NewsFirst reported.

The weapons were found during a raid conducted by the Kandy Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau, acting on information received about the presence of arms at the location.

Police said the ASP, who is attached to the Northern Province, had been living at the residence on rent.

The discovery of live ordnance at a property linked to a serving senior police officer is likely to draw scrutiny, though authorities have not disclosed how the grenades came to be there or whether the officer has been questioned. Further investigations into the incident are underway.
