Bandaragama Police arrested seven suspects, including an alleged key distributor connected to the trafficking network of underworld figure ‘Dubai Sudda’, after raiding a suspected narcotics packaging centre in the Alotiyawa area of Velmilla, Bandaragama, on Saturday.
The operation recovered 50 grams of heroin and 25 grams of ‘Ice’ (crystal methamphetamine) with an estimated street value exceeding Rs. 1.5 million, police said. Officers also seized special paper and polythene materials allegedly used for drug packaging, four mobile phones, a motor car, and other equipment believed to have been used in narcotics distribution.
The raid was conducted following information received by the Officer-in-Charge of the Bandaragama Police regarding suspicious activity at the residence.
The suspects are due to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court. Further investigations are continuing.
The arrests add to a series of distribution-network busts under the government’s flagship Rata Ekata anti-narcotics operation, which President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has indicated will be extended through structural drug-policy reform. Earlier this week, police seized two luxury buses purchased with Rs. 70 million in laundered drug proceeds and arrested suspects with Rs. 50 million worth of ice and heroin in Angoda.
