A foreign woman who arrived in Sri Lanka was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Saturday after authorities discovered a stock of cocaine concealed within her body, NewsFirst reported.

Details of the suspect’s nationality, the quantity of drugs seized, and the origin of her flight were not immediately available.

The arrest is the latest in a series of drug interceptions at BIA in recent weeks. Customs officials previously seized cannabis worth Rs. 255 million from an incoming passenger, while another traveller was caught with kush-laced chocolates valued at Rs. 113 million.

BIA has also been the site of non-drug seizures, including the recent confiscation of 84 mobile phones linked to a Chinese cybercrime operation and the interception of smuggled ornamental plants.

The string of high-profile interceptions suggests enhanced surveillance operations at the country’s main international gateway.
