Police have arrested a 42-year-old man in Werahera, Boralesgamuwa, with more than six kilograms of heroin and crystal methamphetamine (“Ice”), Ada Derana reported on Thursday.
The raid was carried out by officers attached to the Western Province North Crime Division. Police recovered approximately 1 kilogram and 80 grams of heroin and 5 kilograms and 24 grams of crystal methamphetamine from the suspect’s possession, the report said.
The suspect, a resident of Boralesgamuwa, is believed by investigators to have been involved in local drug trafficking activities linked to overseas narcotics networks. He is being held for further questioning by the Crime Division.
The combined haul is one of the larger single-suspect seizures in the western Colombo–Kalutara belt in recent weeks and adds to a steady stream of crystal methamphetamine arrests reported across the country since the start of the Rata Ekata anti-narcotics drive in late October 2025. The Crime Investigation Department’s most recent national figures, updated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on May 29, placed cumulative drug-related arrests at more than 186,000 with 1,947kg of heroin and 2,062kg of crystal methamphetamine seized since the operation began.
