The Ministry of Education has completed the distribution of school uniform fabric donated by China for 2026, reaching 4,418,404 students across the country.

A total of 11.484 million metres of uniform cloth was provided under the grant, covering the annual requirement for students in government and government-assisted schools, student monks and nuns, and students in government-approved Pirivenas.

The distribution β€” an annual programme facilitated by the People’s Republic of China β€” represents one of the largest bilateral education assistance initiatives in Sri Lanka. The fabric is distributed through schools, with each student receiving a set allocation based on their grade level.

The completion ahead of the upcoming Avurudu holiday period means students returning to school after the break will have access to new uniform material for the remainder of the academic year.
