The Colombo Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission will launch a series of island-wide free investor forums starting Thursday, June 25, in a joint push to deepen retail participation in Sri Lanka’s capital markets.
The first session will be held at the CSE trading floor on the 4th floor of the World Trade Centre in Colombo at 5:00 p.m., EconomyNext reported on Saturday. The trading floor itself will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the day for would-be investors, with stockbroking firms and unit trust association members on hand to open trading accounts.
The free forum will feature an interactive panel discussion led by representatives of the CSE, SEC, stockbrokers and the unit trust industry, with the inaugural session conducted in Sinhala. Future events in the series are expected to take the format to towns outside the Western Province.
The initiative arrives as the All Share Price Index recovers from earlier volatility. The ASPI closed back above 22,300 on the back of Aitken Spence’s strong Q1 numbers, and the index has been re-rated since the Trump administration’s June 12 cancellation of strikes on Iran eased Middle East risk premiums. Retail account opening typically lifts in such windows.
A formal investor-education push from the regulator and the exchange together has been a long-standing recommendation from the Capital Market Development Plan and from the IMF programme’s supply-side reforms targeting non-bank financial deepening. Saturday’s announcement is the first concrete CSE–SEC joint outreach event of the cycle.
